2008 Faculty Development Workshops

An AgrowKnowledge highlight each summer is the opportunity for educators to upgrade their teaching methods and skills by attending one of our faculty development workshops. Plans are underway for the Summer of 2008. This year a prerequisite to your attendance at one or more of our summer faculty development workshops is to submit a lesson plan or learning activity that incorporates math, science, or technology - read more about it here.

National Workshops

Math and Science of Greenhouses and HydroponicsDecember 8th - 10th, 2008, Orlando, FLDuring this workshop participants will tour state-of-the-art greenhouses near Orlando, Florida learning about hydroponics, tissue culture, irrigation, and other management issues. Participants will also learn how to conduct plant science laboratories for student involvement using the LabQuest data collection device and various sensors (www.vernier.com). These laboratories will demonstrate collecting and analyzing greenhouse environment, and plant and soil/media parameters. The sensors used for collecting data will include pH, soil moisture, relative humidity, CO2, O2, and light. Working with other participants new student laboratories will be developed.

Geospatial WebinarDecember 20th - 25th, 2008Brian Johnson, testAgrowKnowledge is proud to introduce its first webinar series on Precision Agriculture, sponsored by the AgrowKnowledge Geospatial Team. These hour long webinars are designed to provide faculty with look at how they can better incorporate GPS/GIS technologies into their classrooms. Webinar enrollment is limited and registration for the webinars is limited!
